Aldo x Julian Louie Spring 2011

Julian Louie's second collaboration with Aldo brings us a set of colourful wedges featuring a mish-mash of patchwork, suede and tribal prints. The shoes are made in cotton ikat (similar to tie-dyeing), and were inspired by a book of photographs by South African photographer Pieter Hugo which documents the lives of Nigerian street entertainers and their animals. Now, Aldo wasn't going to produce these, but after a successful Twitter petition*, they're due out next spring.

I have my eye on these three. Now let's hope they look the same in person as they do in these photos. Will you be snagging yourself a pair?  

*This thing does have an ounce of power, maybe I should join!

Nifty Fifties

Women's fashion in the early 50s was characterized by good grooming and an overall tailored look that represented a quite revolution from 1940s austerity. Dior's 'New Look' comprising of a fitted jacket with a nipped in waist and a swingy mid-calf skirt is a hallmark of the period.

After watching the film Designing Woman, I have been looking around for a full mid-length skirt similar to hers. My search is still ongoing, but in the meantime I was able to rework a dress from Jacob. I paired it with a v-neck pullover and metallic platforms. 

Emily from Ruby Slipper Journeys tagged me with a versatile blogger award (thanks Emily :)!) whereby I'm supposed to write seven things about myself. Well, here it goes...

• I'm annoyingly ticklish. A pedicure is a hassle, and a massage is sadly out of the question. If you're trying to get me to do something, all you have to threaten me with is "I'll tickle you" and I'm right on it
• It doesn't take a lot to get me laughing. I find the silliest things amusing and as a result, I spend a huge chunk of my day between giggles and laughing out loud
• As a child I was ambidextrous, but now I'm more left-handed than right
• I've never broken a limb, neither have I had my wisdom teeth pulled out (I consider myself fortunate since I'm terrified of pain, and the thought alone has me grimacing)
• I love learning about new places and cultures. Although I don't plan on visiting every country in the world, my goal is pretty high up there
• I'm not a night-out-on-the-town kind of girl. I'd much rather prefer a dinner party with good music, delicious food and great company 
• Spiritual health is a big part of my life, and in everything I do, I never want to lose sight of Him

Modern Romance

I've been interning at a professional services firm located in the financial district. With most people in their power suits and constantly on the go, the neighbourhood easily falls into the "serious" and possibly drab category. I try to put a little fun into my outfits without sticking out like a sour thumb. A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned here that I was going to the Chosen Ones vintage sale. This romantic blouse was one of my precious finds. I love the sheer fabric, soft pink shade, and ruffle details along the neckline and wrists (I have a thing for ruffles; as seen here, here, here, and here). Worn with nude kitten heels and a pair of cropped trousers. Love the pleats around the pockets. They are super versatile, and I could just as easily throw on a loose shirt and a pair of oxfords, and I'm good to go.

It's Wednesday, and I couldn't be happier since I believe weekends start on Thursdays. Daddy dear arrives in a couple of days. If you are in the Toronto area this Sunday, Pedestrian Sunday returns. Cars are banished, and people take over the streets with great music, a plethora of snacks and food, and various expressions of creativity and the arts. Maybe I'll see you there?

Right now I'm off to help celebrate my friend's birthday. Which means I'll be stuffing my face full of cake and dancing like no one's watching. Hey, isn't that the point of birthday celebrations?

Gender Defiant

The last thing I want to wear during the summer months are jeans that hug my legs and make it difficult for them to breath. That's where boyfriend jeans come into play. Baggy but not buoffant, they are a comfortable substitute for skinnies, and a nice replacement for cutoffs. I paired them with this top I snagged from my mum's closet a while ago. I love the black rosebuds against the white background.

I'll be taking in some music at the International Jazz Fest. Have a great weekend everyone!
