There She Goes Just A Walkin' Down The Street

10.12.10

I talked about my new found appreciation for tweed a while back here, and it only seems to have grown since then. My dad left this blazer behind during his last trip and I have so graciously adopted it into my closet, wearing it everyday without fail. I had been looking around for something like it but had no luck in the shops around here (or maybe I didn't search hard enough?). I can't help but think that the blazer just wouldn't look the same without the suede elbow patches. I've been highly tempted to sew an elbow patch onto all my blazers now. Suede or leather, no matter. Wise move?

Exam in a few days. I should be studying, but I've been doing anything but. Choosing instead to spend countless hours lost in cyberspace all in the name of "Christmas shopping", all under the guise of a study break. Say, is it still a study break when you've spent more hours on break than you actually did studying? I'm in need of a massive shove up the bum that would send me flying right on over to my study desk. Any takers?

Happy Friday! Any plans for the weekend? Looks like I'm going to have to live vicariously through you all.

Bisous,
Abi

Vintage Nostalgia

16.9.10

Last weekend, in a musky room packed with vintage clothing and accessories, style slaves and enthusiasts hustled together in pursuit of that one, or two, or three great find(s). I happened to be one of them. I was told that the savviest shoppers arrive at least 30 minutes before the doors open to get the best selection and avoid long queues.

In my attempt to be first in line and avoid said crowd, I threw on the stretchiest and most comfortable jeans and an embrodiered knit cardi and dashed out of my flat bright and early. This allowed room for speed walking while still staying protected against the slight chill in the air. Despite all my huffing and scurrying, it turns out I still wasn't early enough.

I rumbled my way through the crowd trying to snag up as many pieces as I could without getting into a tug-of-war a la Confessions of a Shopaholic. In the end I managed to walk away with a handful of goodies and  felt quite triumphant amidst the sullen faces. Although, I love the lasting pleasures of buying old clothes, the question is, do the means justfy the ends?

Do you find it worthwhile going to vintage shows, sample sales, flea markets etc?

Hope you're all having a great day!

Abs

Grey Scale

23.8.10

This past weekend in Toronto definitely had me thinking I was back in London. Incessant rain trying to rush us into Fall much earlier than planned, completely threw my plans of heading to the seaside and possibly having a barbecue, right out the door.

Instead, I decided to bake some cookies and start on another not-so-summer-anymore read Anil's Ghost by Michael Ondaatje; "a story about love, about family, about identity...a story propelled by a riveting mystery". I'm only through the first chapter, but these claims definitely hold true. Has anyone else read it....or even heard about it?

I also finished reading the Kite Runner a while back, and for those who asked, it is most definitely worth the read. Such a well written book, it had me crying from both laughter and sorrow while being completely transported into the life of the characters.

Not to be outdone, I decided to match the grey skies head on with this monochromatic grey attire. I had initially tried wearing a maxi dress as skirt here and thought I'd give it another go with this grey dress from forever21. Paired with a distressed shirt from Mango, and a diy turban made from an h&m leopard print scarf (okay, I couldn't do the dreary look from head to toe). Have you tried any other monochrome colours?

Hope you all had a more summer-like weekend than I. Thanks for all your sweet comments and a big welcome to my new readers. I'll be stopping by all your blogs soon. Have a lovely week ahead!

Abs
