I've Designed Films I've Never Seen

Kim Novak in Vertigo, Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday and Grace Kelly in Rear Window. There is much to be said about lady with 8 Oscars under her belt; not for acting, but costume design. A real life designing woman, her guiding principle was that costumes should complement, not compete with the character. Her designs are not necessarily groundbreaking, but I love that the pieces could fit in perfectly today.-decades later. Timeless. Classic. Beautiful.

Edith is a legend...enough said!

And her "principle" is still the best advice for anyone when referring to how they dress.

"Costumes should complement, not compete with the character." Interesting thought - I feel like this could be applied to fashion/ clothing in general! An extension of yourself.

Anyways, awesome post. The clothing is definitely all the adjectives you've used - timeless, beautiful and classic, mmm.

I really like the idea that costumes should compliment not compete with the character, it makes for a much more sophisticated look. great post! :)
