Please Sir, Can I Have Some More

30.11.10

...some more time in the melting pot that is New York City. Some more time to wander around aimlessly, and stumble upon some beautiful cocoons. Time to get lost on the subway, momentarily find our way, only to get lost again. Last weekend, a couple of friends and I decided to take a quick trip to Manhattan. A few phone calls here, a couple of reservations there, and we were New York bound. Juxtaposing sleek skyscrapers with genteel brownstones nestling anything and everything. Sat at cafes eating cheesecake till  the wee hours, followed by early morning strolls through central park. Trips to museums and art galleries right after perusing long rows  of jewellery stands and huts selling bric-à-brac. Shops were crazy busy and sold out in most sizes, but I did manage to snag up a couple of vintage pieces. Got labelled little red riding hood. Returned to Toronto with aching shins and a bit of a fever. Definitely need a longer return trip soon. For now I'm in oversized knits alternating between dayquil and sipping all the tea my body can handle.

PS- I believe this is the post where I slip in  what I like to call new york's national anthem-isn't it so last year though? But methinks a song like that never really gets old, so here goes...empire state of mind

How was your weekend?
Bisous,
Abi

I love this post! A different look at New York than the usual pictures people post. Gave me a real sense of the place (I've never been there). Get well and go back soon!

Oh how I adore this! I lived in NYC almost half a decade and the parting was bittersweet, as I wasn't quite ready to leave (but work and school called). Thank you for this amazing dose of my favourite city - sigh. I'm so glad you had a wonderful time!

My weekend was pathetic compared to your weekend:)
I envy you so much. New York is a wonderful and magnificent. Never sleeps, is in motion, he lives and is so eclectic. There could be everything. Everyone there looks like he wants and nobody is surprised. New York is a dream.

I really like this song. Alica Keys is unique.

Magical and amazing photos.

Your whole description of new york is so gorgeous! It sounds like you had a lovely time. Is it very cold there at the moment? I was there in January and it was absolutely freezing! I hope to go back some time to be able to take my time a little more and do the sorts of things you mentioned.

and can I just say that shamefully empire state of mind was my theme song for while I was there ;)

Hope you all can visit!

@quelle: thanks girlie. I feel much better now. I also would love to go for longer than a week too!

@Emily: I have a feeling you might like it if you like Toronto. It's only bigger.

@Jude: You're welcome. Half a decade? That's a long time. I would definitely love to live there for a short period of time

@Lena: couldn't have said it better myself. It's a nice city. If you have great expectations, you might be a bit let down. But a nice city nonetheless

@Amber Blue Bird: 6 years?! I plan on returning but I don't think for that long. Maybe I'll just keep going back for short periods

@Tastes Eclectic Fashion: You should do it if you can ;) I would love to go to the West Coast though.

@What Was I Thinking? Hope you were able to remember this weekend more vividly than the last ;)

@Veronika: hehee! I'll have a look around my folder and post more soon.

@Fashion, Art and Other Fancies: I felt the same way. As much as I enjoyed my time there, it would never feel the same way like say home in London or even a trip to Paris

@Sofie: I did have a lovely time. It wasn't too cold when I was there which was towards the end of November. But I think they might have gotten more snow now. Heheehe. Empire State of Mind NEVER gets old!

I adore your photography, hats off. Clean, artistic and stunning. And is that some Karen Walker I spy in the NYC montage? Is she at any galleries? Thanks for stopping by MPCC and introducing me to your blog.....Bisous!

@Noelani. She wasn't at the MOMA, which is the only museum I visited. I'm not too sure about other galleries though. It sure would have been nice to see!
