Come Together, Right Now, Over Me

7.8.10

I decided to watch Julie Taymor's Across the Universe again a few days ago. The film is a Beatles musical set in the Vietnam era, capturing the counterculture movement of the late 60s and early 70s. The entire movie is a joy to watch, but I found myself especially alert when the song Come Together cued in. I was fascinated by the clothing of all the characters, and the effortless cool vibe exuded by Jo-Jo when he walked to the house in this scene (Jimi Hendrix anyone?). And because I couldn't find a better photo, we are stuck with Exhibit A below. Unless of course you have seen and memorized the film like I have. In which case you can most likely envision what I'm talking about in your mind's eye.

The late 60s/70’s fashion was the flower power era, drawing inspiration from the hippie movement and ethnic influences. Bell bottoms and flared trousers are all gifts of the 70's fashion to the world. I recently declared my love for bell bottoms here. But I figured I should reiterate. These metallic flared trousers are a vintage gem. Paired with a union jack tee from new look and a headscarf/turban from talbot. My sister says they would be better suited for a fancy dress party, but where's the fun in that?

Thanks for taking the time out to comment on my previous post. And a warm welcome to my new readers. Thanks for following. Means a lot! :)

Hope you're all having a fab weekend!
Bisous,
Abs

You are so beautiful. I love these bell bottoms too.

I love the headscarf/turban as well. It goes really well with the entire outfit.

I watched Across The Universe once, and I honestly don't love it. It's because I only adore the music and how it's shown, but I don't like the actual movie/plot of it. As a series of awesome music videos, I really really LOVE it though.

BELL BOTTOMS ARE SO SNAZZY. Therefore, you are SNAZZY. Honoured? YOU SHOULD BE.

And golly, I STILL haven't seen Across the Universe. I suck? YES.

@Stern, Kaye A & marzia ponzi: Thanks so for following! I'll be sure to stop by your blogs soon :)

@Zabrinah: I have to admit, it took me watching it 3 times to follow it all the way through. And then I appreciated what it was trying to do/portray

@Style-haus: I recommend it. Just be warned you might be a little puzzled in parts

@Lexy: Haha! I feel very honoured. Thanks you. Having not seen the film does not mean you suck. You're just too awesome for that.

Oh gosh, the fab bell bottoms just keep coming over here. Love them! And I was delighted with this movie too, I was especially pleased that they included my favorite Beatles song, "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window"

you look great! the trousers really rock, that's a unique piece.

I watched Across The Universe several times but never really got to its end. But my favorite songs there is All My Loving, If I Fell, and Across The Universe itself. :)

@Tiffany: thank you :) Photos were taking at UofT. University College (the actual building). It's great to see fellow Toronto bloggers ;)

@Wynne: it took me several attempts to watch it all the way through. There's just something about it that makes one drone off....

@Style Porn: would you believe me if I said I live in a castle? The beauty of my school (University of Toronto) is that it is so old, there are victorian "castles" for you to enjoy

@Elvira-Modesty: thanks so much for following, and for letting me know. I'll be sure to stop by your blog soon ;)

@Isquisofrenia: I most definitely want to see the flares. Hope you make an outfit of it and put photos up soon ;)

@Ruta: Isn't it just the most darling place? I feel like I'm in a different era

@vampire:it is a beautiful movie, and I can most definitely relate to that quote. Music is one of the few things that makes sense
