Gotcha! No, I'm not going on a travel adventure quite yet. I am however planning for that day when I would again have to board a flight. I would be more than happy to check in a similar travel trunk to the ones featured in the above photo. You see, the idea of a vintage trunk had been playing around in my head for quite some time and just as I managed to get it out of there, it stormed right back to slap me in the face in form of Louis Vuitton:100 Legendary Trunks. I was browsing through my local bookshop when I stumbled upon the book. I didn't think one could pack up their entire abode into boxes so efficiently. Trunk-bed, steamer trunk, tea case trunk, toiletry kit trunk, circus trunk, library trunk; trunks of varying shapes and sizes with whatever fancy name you use. They were all in there.
Although, after flipping through a few pages, I realized that these might not be very practical for me to travel with. I already have heated debates with the airline staff about how the extra 2 kilos is due to their broken scale and not because I have 5 more dresses than I need. I imagine the trunks would be significantly heavier than my manufacturer-proclaimed lightest-ever-suitcase. Even if these LV trunks didn't lighten your wallet by upwards of five figures, I would have to consider alternate uses as my airport fiascos hunt me. I have concluded that throwing some cushions over it would make for a rather comfy and space saving ottoman, while hanging a mirror above it would make for a nice little dresser. And if you really want to showcase the trunk, you could plump one right in the middle of your sitting room, throw some magazines on it and declare it a coffee table. Et Voila!
For now I'll scout out ebay, or maybe I should go knocking on the door of the elderly lady who lives down the street. You never know, I could walk away with one...or several vintage gems.

I really love the look and idea of the vintage travel trunks - especially the tea case trunk! But I guess we're all too efficient and sleek for our own travel good these days :)
These are lovely vintage travel trunks! Too bad the airlines charge so much for extra luggage. I like to pack a lot of everything!
I'm always fighting the weigth too!!! and I actually love all of these...

I love the idea of vintage trunks, and I love your ideas on how else to use them, since as someone who has travelled a bit over the better part of the last decade, I would be worried about the state the luggage would come back to in after their trip down the conveyor belt xxx

I love travell!

I loved this post! It would be amazing to have so many suitcases, designed to pack three hats each or something! I think you're supposed to use them for boarding a steam ship, or rather, some guy is supposed to trail behind you with a cart loaded high with them.
I also strive for the lightest suitcase ever. It's amazing how a light suitcase can also lighten your wallet!
P.S. Any idea where that last picture is set? I want to be there!
I love the second option, maybe the elderly lady just needs to talk and in the end she'll give you her vintage treasures as a thank you.

I wanna go on a travel vacation too!!! Sigh, but such is life that we cannot just yet. . And yeah, wouldn't we all love to be able to buy LV luggage? My wallet however, doth protest.
I like your idea of showcasing a trunk in your home rather than using it. I mean, really, something that fabulous should not be subjected to horrible abuse, and I've seen how badly airlines tend to handle one's luggage. It's sad, really.
P.S. Thanks so much for your helpful comment on my blog. :)
Wish i had a vintage suitcase, they are so chic!

that first photo is amazing! I just inherited the most beautiful vintage trunk, and it is a showpiece in my home.
Love Grace.
I love the vuitton flower
Haha, good luck with knocking on doors! :)
@Jude: I know eh? The wheels came in and changed everything
@Jen: I know! I don't understand how some of them expect you to only have 23 kilos for a 3 week trip. Bullocks!
@Sweet confessions: Maybe if we put our arguments together we might finally win? What's your strategy?
@Natasha: Hhahahaah! No care at all whatsoever. Flung and battered
@Jason: you did?! I heard there was a museum exhibit in Paris about the luggage. Perhaps that's what it was for?
@Emily: Hahaah! I think of vintage trunks and I immediately think of Titanic. A guy trailing behind with at least 4 of those.
I wish I knew where that last photo is set. So romantic no?
@sU I will have to try out that approach. hahaha
@Ashley: You're welcome. And I couldn't agree more!
@Grace: You my dear, are one lucky lady! Permission to be a tad jealous?
Thanks Shanna. hahaha
Hi Abi! thanks for your nice comment! Talking about myself I eventually decided to pack very light...and to fight with luggage restriction on my way back ;)
love this post!
big hug!

I love trunks, though not for traveling with today's strict codes and rules. I'd love a LV case, it's really the only monogrammed thing I could ever really see me owning.
wobblinbetty: that's the way to go ;)
@Ria:I agree. I'm not too big on monogrammed bags, but for a vintage trunk, I would make an exception ;)
packaging is not a normal thing .... but creativity is important:)
