Velvet Underground

3.1.11

No better way to kick off the new year than with one of my favourite things right now. Some velvety goodness. There are no cupcakes in sight, but stick with me for a moment. Yes, this outfit lacks all the glitter and sequins new year's eve often brings, but thats not what I tend to go for. My love for velvet is fairly recent beginning when I saw this YSL exhibition in Montreal.  Prior to that, you say velvet and I would immediately think of curtains and upholstery. But no more. My outfit was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's Le Smoking tuxedo. The trousers were a parting gift from a co-worker. And boy, was she bang on with the high waists and flared fit? The blazer was in the window at I Miss You Vintage, and I just couldn't come up with a good enough reason to leave it behind.  I predict I'll be getting a lot of wear out of this one.

Back to reality tomorrow. The holidays have come to an end, but I'm still in denial. To numb the pain, I've been trying to find consolation in the beautiful voice that is Feist. Take a listen.

Bisous,
Abi

Love that blazer! Totally jealous because I can't do the cropped thing.

And I'm so happy you have found a love for velvet! I've always had a thing for it. (Whether clothing, curtains or upholstery :))

Yeah, I love this look. I was never a huge fan of velvet because it reminded me of childhood holiday dresses but I've come to appreciate it so much more simply because it tends to remind me of a different era.

I really dig this not-typical new year's eve outfit. Also, I love the title.

Wow I'm jealous of those pants! I love velvet and adding high waisted and flares is just too perfect. I really want some floaty trousers, if only they fitted in with my lifestyle... :)

Hey there :)
First of all: thank you for your comment! But I have to add: I'm not wearing wrist accessories, those are actually bracelets from the festivals I've gone to over the past few years, hahaa. I'm just too stubborn to take em off because they always remind me of the good times I had..
I also want to say I absolutely love your jacket! I have a thing for checkered prints :D Oh, and I love your hairdo ;) Short is the new long!

Love,
Shanah.
